The scene depicts a landscape viewed from a slightly elevated angle, with scattered structures and foliage under a vast sky. The horizon is visible as the buildings meet the sky, which is dominated by a large cloud formation casting shadows below. The etching technique uses fine linework and cross-hatching to create texture and depth. The image is rendered in monochromatic tones, predominantly sepia. Close to the viewer, patches of rough ground are etched in varied directions, leading the eye to the clustered buildings. In the distance, the sky opens up beyond the buildings, contrasting with the solid forms below.
