Artist, French, 1837 - 1911

In this etching, the viewer's perspective is positioned above a water scene. Closest to us sits a small rowboat carrying four figures, two facing the front, one steering with an oar, and one figure seated at the rear. The horizon runs through the middle of the image, separating the water from the hilly landscape beyond. The right side of the horizon features gentle, sloping hills with trees. Further in the distance are structures blending into the surroundings. The scene is in monochromatic tones, using cross-hatching and parallel lines for depth. The trees are detailed with swirling strokes, while the water is depicted with horizontal lines for ripples. The overall palette consists of earthy tones in a rural setting.
