This is a drawing of a cartoon-like composition with handwritten text. The drawing features a simple line sketch of a figure wearing a coat, holding up a book in one hand. There is an accompanying sketch of smaller stick figures to the right. Above the figure, text is written in a cursive style that states, "This little book is rather over than all the good any time!" The main sketch is signed "W Homer age 12" with "Sunday after Christmas 1848" noted beside it. Below is writing addressed to "Dear Mother," dated Dec. 27, 1868.
