Master of the Small Landscapes

Artist After, Netherlandish

The image shows a village scene with thatched-roof houses along a winding path. The viewpoint is slightly elevated. Trees and brush define the horizon. The etching technique creates texture and depth, seen in the rooftops and foliage. The color palette is monochrome, using varying shades of grey and beige. There are figures, including one seated and one standing, near the houses. Bare trees are both near and far. The sky is lightly etched with clouds.
