The image shows an etching from a slightly elevated point of view, capturing a scene by the water. Closest to us are five figures, including an adult lifting a child, gazing towards the horizon where numerous masts suggest a collection of boats or ships. The horizon is positioned above the center of the image and is populated with vertical lines of sails or masts. To the left, a solitary, darkly shaded house stands near the water's edge. The brushstrokes of the etching are delicate and detailed, with fine lines capturing the texture of the water and sky, while more intense, bold strokes define the people and structures close to us. The overall color palette consists of monochromatic tones of sepia or black on a lighter background.
