The horizon line is low in the composition, above a row of ships densely clustered across the water in the distance. The ships have tall masts and billowing smoke. Close to the viewer, there are more boats and figures engaged in various activities. The artwork features fine linework akin to etching, creating detail and texture. The color palette is monochromatic, with shades of sepia or dark ink on a lighter background.
