The image shows a waterfront with many ships lined up on both sides of the waterway. The view is from the edge of a dock or pier. The horizon is low, with no distinguishable skyline, emphasizing the boats and structures along the water. The etching technique is evident in the fine lines of the ships and buildings, conveying movement and activity. The color palette is monochromatic with light and dark sepia tones, enhancing the line-work. A curving path leads into the scene, where sailing vessels with tall masts and riggings are moored alongside piers. Some boat sails are billowed out on the right side.
