Auguste Renoir

Artist, French, 1841 - 1919

This painting shows a woman standing, facing the right, her head slightly angled downward. She has pale skin and dark hair and is wearing a long, pale, blue-gray dress with wide sleeves adorned with black stripes. She may be wearing a black hat with a gray ruffle at the top and red bracelets, although these details are unclear. One of her hands is raised to her forehead, while the other rests by her waist. She is painted with thick brushstrokes and minimal detail. The background features a green garden or park setting with some dark green plants below a pale blue-gray sky. The background is painted with the same blurred strokes.
