The viewpoint in the etching is low and slightly angled. A large, gnarled tree dominates the scene. The horizon is obscured by dense foliage and rocks. The horizon line, if it exists, is near the upper third of the piece. The engraving technique uses intricate lines to create texture and depth, particularly in the tree's bark and foliage. The color palette is monochromatic with variations of black and white. The twisted tree trunk and rocks are in the foreground, while smaller trees and dense vegetation fill the background.
