The image depicts the upper part of a woman's body. She is facing the camera slightly to the side, with her head turned towards the lens. Her facial features include a strong jawline, arched eyebrows, a slightly furrowed brow, and eyes partly narrowed. Her dark hair is pulled back tightly from her face, revealing her high forehead. She is wearing a knitted shawl with a chevron design pattern covering her shoulders and draped around her. The background shows a blurred view of a brick wall, suggesting an outdoor or building exterior setting.

Scholarly Remarks and Key Set Data

Remarks

In October 1936 Stieglitz and O’Keeffe moved to their last home, a penthouse at 405 East 54th Street, where they lived from April 1936 until Stieglitz’s death in 1946. Judging from the brick wall in the background, this photograph must have been taken there.
