Associated Names
Lucas Cranach the Elder

Artist, German, 1472 - 1553

There is an image of two figures. One figure is seated on the left while the other stands on the right. The seated figure is displayed from the knees up, with his head slightly bowed and turned to the right. He has a beard, curly hair partially covered by a crown of thorns, and a solemn expression. Rays are emanating from his head, and he is bare-chested with a cloth wrapped around his waist. His hands are crossed over his lap with visible marks on them. The standing figure faces the seated one, with hands raised and clasped together. This figure has short hair, a high forehead, and wears a robe. An ornate hat resembling a papal tiara is on the ground between them. Above them are stylized clouds with small birds and symbols. The background is plain, emphasizing the interaction between the two figures.
