The image features a half-length profile portrait of a man facing to the right within an oval frame. The man has detailed facial features, including an aquiline nose and slightly curved lips. His hair is styled in a classic 18th-century fashion, possibly a powdered wig. He wears an elegant suit with a buttoned coat and a high-collared shirt. A decorative fabric bow adorns the top of the oval frame. The background is crosshatched, and beneath the frame, there is elegant script stating the individual's name and title as P. J. Mariette.
