The image depicts buildings with distinct architectural features. The view is from ground level, showing a cluster of buildings along the horizon. Two notable structures include a golden-domed building and a tower with a golden cross. The painting style uses dynamic brushstrokes, creating an impressionistic feel. The color palette is warm, with earthy reds and browns for the buildings, contrasting with the bright blue sky. Sparse trees are in the foreground, with the buildings rising behind them. The sky is active with swirling blues and whites.

In 1931 John Marin completed four views from the town green of New Castle, Delaware: View from the Green, New Castle, Delaware; Third Street; Immanuel Church: Close View; and Immanuel Church: Distant View. Historic buildings and homes, some dating as early as the 17th and 18th centuries, made the town a tourist destination. Marin painted these small works quickly. His active brushwork enlivens the historic structures, which he framed with trees and sky. Trained as an architect, Marin has carefully depicted architectural details of the town’s buildings while abstracting the natural elements of the scenes.
