The image shows an impressionistic view of a large cathedral. The structure dominates the right side of the scene, with the horizon suggested by the lower edges of the cathedral walls meeting the ground and by the rooflines of smaller adjoining buildings towards the left. The brushstrokes are soft and loose, lending a blurred quality to the architecture. The color palette is subdued, with cool grays and blues dominating the cathedral, while the sky to the left has warm tones of peach and yellow, possibly suggesting a sunset or sunrise.
