Artist, American, 1870 - 1953

The image displays a sketch of a church viewed from a frontal angle slightly to one side. Both the steeple and part of the main structure of the church are visible. The church anchors the image centrally. The steeple rises towards the top center, crowned with a weather vane. The sketch captures outlines and textures with soft, wavering lines. The color palette is monochromatic, with shades of gray and black against a light background. A small, indistinct figure is close to us, implying motion. Trees around the building are depicted with swirling lines, adding to the dynamic feel of the piece.
