Artist, American, born Russia (now Latvia), 1903 - 1970

The image consists of a pencil sketch of a landscape from a slightly elevated viewpoint. The horizon is high in the composition, featuring distant hills or low mountains. Loose, gestural pencil strokes create an impressionistic scene with emphasis on outlines and shading. The color palette is limited to shades of gray, capturing light and shadow. The foreground shows undulating land with sparse vegetation, a winding path or river, and darker forms in the distance. Faint, sketchy lines in the background suggest distant elements or clouds.
