The illustration shows two figures standing side by side. One is a soldier and the other is a woman. The soldier is holding the woman's arm as they both look down at another soldier who is partially submerged in water. The submerged soldier's expression appears intense, with a furrowed brow and open mouth. The background is minimal with sparse vegetation.
