The sculpture depicts four figures. The central figure is an emaciated man with a beard and a crown of thorns on his head. He is reclined with his arms outstretched and his head resting on the lap of another figure. He is covered with a draped cloth across his lower body. The figure to his left cradles his head tenderly with one hand and places a hand to her face with a somber expression. She is clothed in a dark robe with a veil over her head. The figure in the center, also a woman, gazes upwards with a solemn expression, wearing a veil over a dark dress. The person on the right appears to be a man with stylized facial hair, also wearing dark clothing, and has his hand to his chest. The sculpture material appears to be painted wood or plaster, giving the figures detailed facial features. The black and white photo enhances the emphasis on textures and expressions. The backdrop features a cross and ornate patterning resembling wallpaper, flanked by lace curtains.

The image shows a view through a decorative arched entrance leading to another architectural structure in the distance. The arch is adorned with two statues on either side, and a cross sits atop the center. The horizon line is not distinctly visible, directing the eye to the building beyond. The structural elements of the arch and the edifice in the distance are detailed. The scene has a vintage sepia tone, giving it an aged appearance. The lighting creates soft shadows, emphasizing the textures and details of the stonework and sculptures.
