Artist, American, 1923 - 1997

This is a drawing of a handshake. The image consists of three separate illustrations of handshakes arranged in a grid with some text. In the center of the top half, there is monospaced text that reads "LICHTENSTEIN opening Saturday, February 10, all day LEO CASTELLI". The top right square features a black and white drawing of two hands gripping each other in a firm handshake. The bottom left section has a red background with a stark contrasted negative-space outline of a handshake. Finally, the bottom right image repeats the handshake motif against a red background, using a darker red and black halftone pattern. It is signed by Lichtenstein. The overall style is reminiscent of pop art, characterized by bold lines and comic strip aesthetics.
