Three figures are depicted in the image. A woman is seated, displaying the upper part of her body. Her head is slightly bowed, and she appears to be looking downward. She wears a textured, patterned garment. In front of her, there is a small child whose head is visible, resting gently in her hands. Beside the woman, a man is standing, shown almost in full view but with his upper body cut off. He leans slightly, resting his elbow on his knee and his forehead against his arm, with his face partially obscured from view. He holds a length of rope or string in his extended hand. The background is dark and plain.
