Artist, French, 1837 - 1911

The image is a sepia-toned landscape with a slightly elevated perspective. The horizon is towards the middle to lower part of the image, where distant foliage meets the sky. The brushstrokes are fluid and expressive, with a combination of fine lines for details and broader strokes for shadow and form. There is texture and movement in the brushwork, especially in the leafy shapes of the trees. The color palette consists of earthy browns and warm sepia tones. Closest to us are large, dark silhouettes of trees with delicate details. In the distance, the landscape softens towards a cloudy sky at the top.
