The image depicts a large, ancient fortress positioned atop a low hill. The horizon line is low, emphasizing the sky above. The brushwork is composed of fine lines and dashes, giving a sketch-like quality to the scene. The color palette is monochromatic with sepia tones and beiges. Close to us, there are rough patches of ground and some structures. In the distance, there are rugged terrains leading up to the fortress which anchors the composition. The wide area around the fortress is simplistic and sparse in detail, enhancing its imposing presence.
