This is a portrait engraving of a man. He is depicted facing slightly to his left with his body turned towards the viewer. The man has a mature facial appearance with a high forehead, prominent cheekbones, and a slight smile. He has short, receding hair, a neatly trimmed mustache, and goatee. He is dressed in a dark, full-sleeved robe with a wide white collar and buttons down the front. The background displays intricate line work framing the image in an oval shape. Below the portrait is a decorative inscription on a plinth stating “PETRVS GASSENDVS DINIENSIS” in Latin. The engraving is signed and dated to the right of the oval frame as "D. Nanteuil Faciebat 1658".
