British, 1819 - 1879
Bambridge worked as a schoolmaster with Bishop Selwyn's mission to New Zealand and returned to Windsor in 1848. From about 1854 he was regularly employed by the Royal Family as their photographic factotum, acting as photographer, printer, calligrapher and organizer of the Queen's private negatives. Upon his retirement in 1874 Queen Victoria granted him a pension in recognition of his services.
