The image displays irregular, flowing shapes in vibrant greens, blues, and pinks. Among these colors is the silhouette of a person that appears to be wearing a hat. The abstract patterns and colors suggest fluidity, resembling water or clouds and enveloping the figure.

Look Down on War

Maya Freelon, Robert Franklin, Allan Edmunds, Brandywine Workshop and Archives · 2009 · color offset lithograph on wove Tumbra Grafik paper ·  Accession ID  2023.22.14

The image shows abstract shapes and lines with vibrant colors, including sweeping arcs and a chaotic blend of textures. The abstract elements form a collage of two faces, one in the upper portion looking upwards and the other partly obscured in the lower right corner. Bold strokes of color sweep across the background, with layered text and imagery present. Vivid yellows, oranges, and blues are used throughout the composition.

Shown from the waist down, two pairs of legs, silhouetted in matte gold, float to our left of center from top edge of the composition against a streaks and smears of cobalt blue and muted mint green in this abstract, horizonal print. The image spans two pieces of paper, so there is a narrow white margin down the center. The legs seem to face each other in profile, knees touching or overlapping. One foot in the pair to our right is lifted behind the body and the person to the left stands up on the toes of both feet. A network of stylized stems, leaves, palm fronds, and perhaps narrow tree trunks in rust brown overlays the blue and green field. In pencil under the image in the lower left, an inscription reads, “il sogno del cortile 14/50,” and to the right, “Kay WalkingStick 2004,” though not all the letters are fully articulated.

The image contains a variety of curved and straight lines, along with scattered shapes, creating an abstract collage. It includes photographs of people, including portraits and group images, reminiscent of school or family photographs. Black and white photos are mixed with colorful paint patches and textured patterns, creating a scrapbook-like feel. Handwritten notes and artistic brush strokes are integrated into the composition, adding complexity. The abstract layout prompts viewers to connect familiar elements with personal or collective histories.

The image depicts geometric shapes and lines forming an abstract pattern. In the center, there are circles and rectangles resembling a building facade. Pillar-like structures are on the left and right sides. Abstract representations of animals like a lion and an elephant can be seen. Checkerboard patterns and symmetrical forms create familiar architectural elements.
