The Master of the Triptych of Louis XII was active toward the close of the fifteenth century and during the first fifteen years of the sixteenth. His pseudonym comes from a work of exceptional standing: a triptych made of nine plaques, the wings of which portray Louis XII, king of France (ruled 1498-1515) and Anne de Bretagne, whom he married in 1499. About twenty-six enamels may be attributed to the master and his workshop. Their style reflects that of painters of the Loire school: the Master of Moulins and the illuminator Jean Bourdichon.
