Biography

This medalist is known only from two signed medals. On one of them he signs himself as a knight. Both medals depict Doge Leonardo Loredan, who reigned between 1501 and 1521. The titulature on one medal suggests that it was made to record the election of the doge. Perhaps the artist was a court functionary charged with diplomatic or administrative functions; the awarding of a knighthood to a medalist would have been most unusual at the very beginning of the sixteenth century.

[This is the artist's biography published in the NGA systematic catalogue of Renaissance medals.]
