Edith was one of the seven children of Ann Maria Stow and her husband George Phillips. Her grandparents were Edward [c. 1768-1845] and Nancy Brewer Peck Stow of Boston. Edward Stow worked in Boston and in Philadelphia, where he also served as agent for the artist Gilbert Stuart, who painted his portrait, now in NGA (1942.8.23). Three of Edith's siblings were John, Ann Broadhurst, and Norah. [Compiled from sources and references recorded on CMS]
