Helena was the daughter of Charles Edward Francis McCann and Helena Woolworth McCann, and granddaughter of five-and-dime store magnate Frank. W. Woolworth (d. 1919). The McCanns had three children: Frasier Winfield McCann, Constance Woolworth McCann Betts (Mrs. Wyllys Betts), and Helena, who married international polo player Winston Guest. In 1935, Mrs. McCann, who with her sister and neice had inherited the Woolworth fortune, made large monetary gifts to her children, speculated in the press to amount to about $15 million.
