Biography

According to the Getty Provenance Index (letter of 25 February 1992, in NGA curatorial files), the relationship of Agnew and Ansdell to the firm of Thomas Agnew & Sons, Ltd., is unclear. C.M. Agnew is C. Morland Agnew; he may the firm member Morland Agnew (died 1931) or perhaps a son. Agnew and Ansdell appear in the Getty Provenance Index a few times, each time buying in the early 1920s from Agnew's.
