Dr. Ludwig Hopf was a well-respected physicist in Germany, but had to flee with his family in 1939, having lost his position at the University of Aachen due to racial grounds in Nazi Germany. The family went to London and shortly thereafter, Dublin, Ireland where he was a lecturer at Trinity College. He died shortly after this relocation.
