Primarily a collection of books, manuscripts, and graphics begun by banker Baron Horace de Landau [1824-1903] and inherited by his niece Madame Hugo Finaly [d. 1938]. The collection was located at the Villa Finaly in Florence. Much of the non-graphics portion of the collection was looted from the Villa Finaly by the Germans in the summer of 1944, and moved about to various locations before recovered at Campo Tures by the American Military Government (AMG) 5th Army in June 1945. Other portions of the collection were found in tact hidden elsewhere in Italy. The collection was mostly dispersed in a series of auctions following Mme Finaly's death. The Villa Finaly and its library were donated to the University of Paris by the Landau-Finaly family in 1953.
