The Sin

Edvard Munch, M. W. Lassally Graphische Kunst-Anstalt · 1902 · lithograph on wove paper ·  Accession ID  2024.148.7

The image contains vertical and diagonal lines, along with curved forms, creating an abstract representation. The vertical lines suggest rain or tall trees, while the diagonal lines indicate a path or bridge. Some shapes resembling human figures lean over a rail in the foreground. In the center, a geometric structure resembling a house with a gabled roof is surrounded by rounded forms that could be hills or rocks. The composition aims to evoke a rural or natural environment.

The Girls on the Bridge (Pikene på broen)

Edvard Munch, Anton Peder Nielsen Kildeborg · 1918 · woodcut on wove paper ·  Accession ID  2023.161.3

The image depicts a nude human figure with long hair embracing a skeleton from an oblique angle, revealing the back of the figure and most of its form. The human body is standing, leaning into the skeleton with feet on the ground and bodies closely entwined. The hair of the person is long and dark, cascading down their back. There are no visible garments on the human figure, and no visible objects or jewelry are present. The image is rendered in a sketch style with fine, dark lines against a neutral background. Surrounding the central figures, the background consists of a simple, rectangular border with subtle decorative line work. Below the main scene, three sketch-like representations of heads or faces appear within the border, sketched in a similar manner with minimal detail.

Vampire II (Vampyr II)

Edvard Munch, M. W. Lassally Graphische Kunst-Anstalt · 1895/1902 · lithograph ·  Accession ID  2021.101.2

The image shows a group of people against an abstract background. The figures mainly display their head and upper body, with some facing the viewer. Two individuals on either side might be women sporting head coverings. Their facial features are distorted in an abstract style, making it hard to discern specific characteristics. One person in the center wears a top hat and formal attire. More individuals in formal wear, most in top hats, are visible in the background. The scene is set beneath a vibrant, textured expanse of red and white, resembling a sky or awning. The image plays with a stark contrast between dark and light.
