The sculpture is a bust of a young boy with short hair styled to the side, wearing a garment with a broad collar resembling a sailor's outfit. The material appears to be plaster or a stone-like substance, with a color of off-white or light gray. The surface is smooth with some visible marks and rough areas, particularly along the edges. The boy's expression is neutral, with defined facial features such as eyes, a straight nose, and closed lips. The size of the sculpture is life-sized or slightly smaller, depicting the boy's head and shoulders in realistic proportions.

The image depicts a tall, narrow structure to the right side. The landscape recedes into the distance on the left side with a person walking in the distance. The brushstrokes are light and sketch-like with an off-white and grey color palette. Foliage is sketched on the right side of the structure and the left side is more open.

The image is a pencil sketch of an adult male subject's head and part of his neck. The subject's head faces slightly left with a neutral expression. He has a broad forehead, dense beard, closely cut hairstyle, and the shading emphasizes the contours of his face. The subject wears a collared garment. There is no visible jewelry or objects. The background is plain with minimal detail, except for a faint sketch on the upper left. Handwritten text below the image identifies it as a self-portrait by "Wm. E. Winner" from around 1880 in Philadelphia and includes a note about ownership.
