Biography

The son of Sir Philip le Belward Grey-Egerton and his wife, Henrietta, the younger Sir Philip succeeded his father as 12th Bt. in 1891. He served as a local Justice of the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant. His military positions included that of Major and brevet Lt.-Col., T.F.R., formerly Earl of Chester's Yeomanry and Captain of the 4th Battalion Cheshire Regiment. He married Mary Carolyn Campbell [d. 1959], daughter of Major J. Wayne Cuyler, U.S.A., in 1893. They had two sons and a daughter and were divorced in 1906. He married secondly in 1910 to Aimée Mary Cumming [d. 1958], widow of Sir Rupert Turner Havelock Clarke, 2nd Bt. As his two sons were killed in action in World War I, Sir Philips was succeeded by his cousin, the Rev. Sir Brooke de Malpas Grey-Egerton, as 13th Bt.
