Biography

James Pillans, LL.D., was a Professor of Roman Literature. The painter Sir Henry Raeburn presented him with a portrait Raeburn painted of Col. Francis James Scott, in 1815 (now in the NGA). According to inscriptions on the back of the canvas, Scott was a friend of Pillans'.
