Butts, Thomas

British, 1757 - 1845

Thomas Butts worked as a clerk in the office of the Commissary General of Musters (a department of the War Office). He was the British painter William Blake's most important patron; around 1790, he commissioned 135 illustrations to the Bible from Blake.
