A snowy street with a horse and carriage is flanked to each side by tall buildings in this vertical painting. The overcast scene is loosely painted with visible brushstrokes throughout, so some details are difficult to make out. The buildings to each side are painted in tones of coffee and earth brown along the street, and oatmeal brown and slate gray for the buildings farther from us. Two-story houses with steps leading down to the street line the composition to each side, and the taller buildings beyond stretch off the top edge of the canvas. Closest to us and to our right, the horse and carriage move away from us. Painted with a few strokes in black, golden yellow, and crimson red, people walk or stand along both sides of the street. A single lamppost stands about halfway back along the street to our left. The globe dangles from the curved top of the lamppost. The snow is painted in tones of ivory and cream white. In the distance, the sky between the buildings is parchment brown. The artist signed and dated the painting in the lower left corner, “Robert Henri Mar 5 1902.”

This painting shows a young boy sitting on a wooden rocking chair next to a dark metal stove. He is leaning forward with one arm extended towards the stove door, which is partially open, revealing bright orange light. The boy is wearing a dark cap, a brown long-sleeved shirt, and light-colored pants. His face is partially turned away, focused on the stove, but we can see his pale skin and rosy cheeks. Firewood is scattered on the floor around the stove. The background includes plain gray walls, and on the right are rows of what appear to be wooden desks.

This painting is an upper-body portrait of a seated man. His body is turned to the left, while his face is turned to the right. His facial features include a fair complexion with a ruddy glow on his cheeks, prominently arched gray eyebrows, gray eyes, and pink lips that appear to be uneven, with the left side higher than the right side. His hair is short, gray, and wavy. The man is dressed in formal attire, wearing a dark green-blue coat over a white waistcoat and a white cravat around his neck, with a striped yellow, red, blue, and white shirt peeking out around his collar. He has a red flower pinned to his lapel, and hanging from it is a gold-and-white medal shaped like a star. He holds a quill pen in his right hand, resting it on an olive-green cloth spread across his knees. The background is dark gray, with a hint of a reddish wooden cabinet or chest in the bottom right and a gray cloth or coat hung on the right.
