Upton, George Frederick, 3rd viscount Templetown

Biography

George Upton succeeded his brother, Henry Montagu Upton as Viscount Templetown in 1863. He was a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath, a Knight of the Medjidie, and an Officer of the Legion of Honour. Upton's military career included posts as a General in the Royal Army, Colonel of the 2nd Life Guards, and Colonel commanding the 2nd Battalion of the 60th Foot. He was also named honorary Colonel of the 4th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles. On 6 February 1850, Upton married Susan [d. 1894], eldest daughter of F.M. Sir Alexander Woodford. They had no children; thus the Viscount wa succeeded in his title by his nephew, Henry Edward Montagu Dorington Clotworthy Upton.
