The eldest son of Edward Southwell Ward, 3rd Viscount Bangor, and his wife, Harriet Margaret, Edward Ward succeeded his father in the barony in 1837. He served as a representative peer for Ireland. Ward died unmarried and thus was succeeded by his brother, Henry William Crosbie, as 5th Viscount.
