Koenigs, Franz Wilhelm

German, 1881 - 1941

Biography

The son of a German father and Dutch mother, Franz Koenigs was born in Cologne. He traveled widely and worked in a number of businesses before moving to The Netherlands and opending the Rhodis Koenigs Handel-Maatschappij bank and trading company there. An avid art collector, Koenigs was known for his extensive collection of old master drawings. Koenigs was married to the Anna von Kalckreuth, the daughter of the painter Count Leopold von Kalckreuth. Koenigs became a Dutch citizen in 1939. He lost his life in a train accident in Cologne on May 6, 1941.
