Addison Tinsley West was born in 1897, son of Francis Bartow West [1869-1942]; Addison's aunt was Annie Munro West. Francis and Annie were the great-great-grandchildren of Dr. David Rogers [1748-1829] and his wife, who were sitters for two NGA paintings by Ralph Earl (1965.15.8 and 1965.15.9). Dr. Rogers was a physician during the Revolution, and later co-founded the Connecticut Medical Society (1792). (see Creighton Barker, "The Origin of the Connecticut State Medical Society," in The Heritage of Connecticut Medicine, ed. Herbert Thoms [New Haven, 1942], 9). For more information on Dr. Rogers, see Elizabeth Manikin Kornhauser, Ralph Earl: The Face of the Young Republic (exh. cat., Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford) (New Haven and London, 1991). Addison's daughter is Elizabeth H. Reed, Orlando, Florida.
