Artist, Austrian, 1698 - 1762

The image shows a male figure seated, with one leg bent in front of him and the other leg stretched out. He is leaning back on his left arm, which rests on an overturned barrel or large pot. The man's right hand is placed on his bent leg, and his head is turned slightly downward and to the left. He has prominent facial features, including a strong nose and bushy eyebrows. His hair and beard are full and flowing, with some hair tied back and hanging loosely around his shoulders. The drawing is in red chalk, giving the figure a classical appearance. The background is minimal, with sketched suggestions of the surface he is seated on and the space around the cylindrical object.
