This carved ivory statue shows a mostly nude man standing on a square base with his hands bound to one side as he looks over the other shoulder. In this photograph, his wrists are tied together to our right, and he looks off to our left with his face tucked close to that shoulder. He has a curly beard and long wavy hair, which is pushed back over his shoulders. His lips are parted and his brows gathered. Both feet are planted on the base but most of his weight rests on his straight right leg, on our left, and the other knee is bent. This makes his right hip, on our left, jut out as his torso angles to our right. A loincloth drapes around his hips and ties at his right hip, on our left. His torso, arms, and legs are muscled, and veins stand out on his hands and arms. Some cracks are visible along the surface.

Christ Bound

François Duquesnoy · 1620s · ivory ·  Accession ID  2007.67.1

The sculpture depicts a figure of a man with long hair and a beard, standing in a slightly contrapposto pose. His hands are tied together with a rope, which is attached to a vertical column beside him. He is wearing a cloth draped around his waist, leaving his upper body exposed. The sculpture is made of a dark metal, possibly bronze, which gives it a deep brown color with smooth, reflective surfaces that catch the light, highlighting the finely detailed musculature and folds of the cloth. The figure stands on a circular base that is the same color and material as the sculpture itself, and the column beside him is designed in a simple, cylindrical pattern with horizontal grooves.

François Duquesnoy · 18th or 19th century · bronze ·  Accession ID  2007.150.2

This rectangular relief sculpture depicts several cherubs engaged in various activities. The cherubs are shown in dynamic poses around a rectangular object, like a table or a bed. The cherubs are nude, with curly hair and rounded limbs. Some cherubs grapple with each other, while some lay on the ground and others eat from a cornucopia of fruit. The sculpture is made of dark brown material, with a greenish patina in some of the finer lines.
