Isabel Bishop · 1958 · etching in black ·  Accession ID  2008.115.318

The image contains vertical and horizontal lines creating a grid-like structure intersecting with curving and arching shapes. The composition resembles a window or mirror reflecting a scene, as the shapes within the lines resemble human figures. The grid formation of lines and reflections creates an illusion of a busy setting, with outlines resembling people standing or walking.

The head is tilted downward, and the facial features are not clearly defined. The hair is sketchy and seems short or closely cropped. The figure is nude, surrounded by soft pencil and watercolor shading that creates a sense of form and volume. There are no visible items of clothing or jewelry on the person. The background consists of a light, neutral wash with hints of shading that suggest a seated surface, but it remains abstract and minimalistic, keeping focus on the subject of the drawing.
