Gordon Parks

Artist, American, 1912 - 2006

The face and top part the shoulders of a Black man take up most of this vertical black and white photograph. The man’s chest faces our right, but he turns to look at or just past us with dark eyes. His chin tips slightly up so his eyelashes cast shadows onto his lower lids. He is cleanshaven with wide eyebrows, a square-shaped face, and a slight double chin. His hair is cut short, and he wears a suit jacket over a white collared shirt and tie. The background is filled with an abstract composition of overlapping geometric, mostly rectangular shapes and lines. The work of art is signed in the lower right corner but is illegible in this photograph.
