The photograph depicts a cityscape viewed from above, likely from a high vantage point. The horizon is seen at the top of the buildings, highlighting their height. Five skyscrapers are lined up, casting shadows on each other and the structures below. The tallest building, situated slightly left of center, casts a long shadow to the right. The image is in black and white with high contrast, emphasizing architectural lines and shadow play. Smaller structures add depth to the cityscape in the distance, against a clear sky backdrop.

The image shows a man leaning his head on his hand, positioned with his face resting on his left hand. He has a mustache, thin-framed eyeglasses, and thick, greying hair that curls slightly at the edges. He is dressed in a formal jacket, a white shirt, and a black bow tie. The background is a soft, dark blur.

The patterns of the window shades on the Newsweek Building and the progression of the shadows suggest that Stieglitz made this and the following three photographs (Key Set numbers 1568, 1569, and 1570) in one morning in rapid succession.
