Artist, French, 1798 - 1863

This painting shows a dense forest scene from a slightly elevated point of view. The horizon is hidden by green trees and underbrush. Tall trees are visible in the center, sprouting above shorter bushes and ferns. The undergrowth is dense with low shrubs and grasses, and we can see darker, shadowy sections that lead towards the depths of the forest. The color palette includes deep greens, browns, lighter greens, and ochres, with hints of blue-gray sky at the top beyond the green leaves.
