Horticulture Volunteers
The department of horticulture is looking for volunteers with a passion for gardening. There are volunteer opportunities both indoors and out, depending on the volunteer's preference and the horticulture department's current projects.
Volunteers are welcome to apply at any time of year and are encouraged to commit for one year as a way to experience the different seasons of horticulture with the National Gallery. Opportunities currently exist for individuals who can volunteer Monday through Friday.
Commitment
Participation in the program requires a one-year commitment, with a minimum of eight volunteer hours a month.
Application process
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. Potential volunteers will need to complete the online application in order to be considered. Within 14 business days of receiving the completed application, a member of the horticulture department will contact the applicant.
The prospective volunteer will need to schedule a time to meet the team members and tour the working space of the department including the Sculpture Garden and greenhouses. A master gardener certification is not required, but the horticulture department may provide opportunities to fulfill credit hours for certificate holders.
