This exhibition is no longer on view at the National Gallery.

Overview: 36 works that included visual references to windows or frames were shown in this installation, which examined ways in which artists have used the window as a frame and a metaphor in their work across 500 years. This was one of a series of collaborative Modern Lab installations exploring aspects of the National Gallery of Art's collections of modern and contemporary works in all media.

Organization: The exhibition was organized by the National Gallery of Art. Jennifer Roberts, exhibition research associate of modern and contemporary art, was curator.
